There may be over one hundred CMS in the market today but not all are good. Therefore it is advisable to use CMS having good ratings. Based on features and ratings we present the top 5 of them.

1. Wordpress – Wordpress is indeed the leader in CMS category. It is an open source, free to use CMS written in PHP computer language. It is most widely used CMS in the market today leaving behind its rivals by a good distance.  With wordpress it is very easy to make personal website, blog website, business website and even ecommerce website without spending a single penny. All you have to Install Wordpress in your hosting server and you are ready to start. Wordpress has highest no of free and paid themes and plugins than any other CMS. So the variety of choices is great here.

2. Drupal – Drupal comes second in the list. It is also a good CMS written in PHP language and is also open source. Drupal offers limitless potential with native features and module extensions. When it comes to security drupal has the best one and even better than wordpress. That’s why drupal is used more by government institutions worldwide.

3. Joomla – Joomla comes third in this list. Written in php and being open source is used by many top level organizations like ebay and ikea. It is also multilingual like wordpress and drupal and has features like integrated help system, media and banner management, news feeds management and much more.

4. DotNetNuke(DDN) – It is based on Microsoft dot net platform and is written in C# language. It is also open source in nature.  It is also a very easy to use CMS system for your website. If you are a web developer in dot net technology then this is the CMS for you to use in your projects. DDN need windows based hosting to work. The latest DDN version uses Microsoft ASP.NET MVC which has Model – View – Container system of working.

5. nopCommerce – The last in our list is nopCommerce which is open source and ASP.NET  MVC based CMS like DDN. It has pluggable modular/layered architecture which allows additional functionality and presentation elements to be dynamically added to the application at run-time. This makes easy to manage your website. Since nopCommerce is not as popular like wordpress or drupal so the number of plugins and themes are less here. However if you are dot net developer then this is the CMS to look for.

Based on your requirement you should choose the CMS which offers you the most. However if you are a first time CMS user then it’s our only advice to you – “Go with Wordpress”.
